Episode 6: Glaciers, Clothing and a Dream w/ Branching Threads

Updated: Aug 28, 2020

Hello Wild World!

Thanks for joining us today. Let's hop right in.

Mendenhall Glacier, pictured below, has receded more than 2.5 miles since the 1700s. A whopping 1.8 of these miles have disappeared in the past century. The time lapse shows the changes just from 2007-2015. My guest today understands that this is a problem.

Grant Ainsworth, CEO of Branching Threads, environmentalist and Financial Advisor, grew up down the street from this glacier in Juneau, Alaska. His family hiked the glacier frequently with him as a kid and as he aged it became drastically apparent that this piece of his childhood, this 3,000 year old hunk of ice, was vanishing before his eyes. He felt helpless, and it wasn't until he took an environmental science class his sophomore year of college that he had a startling revelation: he could do something about it.

Grant realized he could bind his knowledge of business and his love for the environment, and in 2017 Branching Threads was born. The idea was simple: create a clothing company that went easy on the environment. But it's become so much more than that. Branching Threads is a carbon negative clothing company that plants a tree for every dollar it receives. In just two years they've planted over 60,000. That's something to be proud of, and today I have the privilege of bringing you his story.

Without further ado, I introduce you to Grant Ainsworth w/ Branching Threads.

With Kindness,

Dylan Pritchett
